Local ladies will be treated to a night of fun, food and relaxation in celebration of Women’s Health Week this month.
“It’s going to be a nice, relaxed atmosphere for women to socialise and have a good time; and hopefully to get something out of it as well,” HealthWISE primary health care nurse Chloe Wilkin said.

The free dinner will feature a range of rural health professionals eager to share their knowledge, including Hunter New England Health’s Margaret Burns and Alvin Hill, Rural Adversity Mental Health’s Letitia Cross, HealthWISE dietitian Sammy Humphries and Kayla Oakley from Divine Healing.
Event goers will learn about women’s health and continence, accessing wellness and resilience programs, gut health, yoga and meditation.
“This is about getting women to support each other with the drought,” Chloe said. “It’s not looking good, but it’s about remembering that we’re all in this together.”

Running from September 2-6, Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week is dedicated to making good health a priority for all Australian women. Jean Hailes is a national not for profit health organisation which provides information, resources and clinical care to women.  The local event will run after Women’s Health Week, on September 20, but is inspired by the Jean Hailes initiative.

Chloe noted that many women are so focused on keeping their household afloat that they put themselves and their health last.  “We have to be able to look after ourselves before we can help others,” she said.  Numbers are limited, with participants encouraged to RSVP to HealthWISE on 6792 5514 by Friday, September 13.
