When Will the Government Listen

When Will the Government Listen

Call this drought what it is - a Natural Disaster

This drought is breaking records, pushing families and communities to the brink − and it’s getting worse.

Across NSW, it’s drier than many have seen in their lifetimes. Farms that have never in their hundred-plus year history destocked, have sold all their livestock.

Farmers that had enough hay in storage for years of drought have used their last bale.

Farmers that have never complained, have gotten on with the job, have put food on tables across the world − are asking for assistance.

Gloucester's Lyn Stewart to launch her self-published book at Gloucester Bookshop

Gloucester's Lyn Stewart to launch her self-published book at Gloucester Bookshop

From the Gloucester Advocate story by Anne Keen

Gloucester's Lyn Stewart had a niggling interest in researching her family history.

Like many Australians, her family tree has a range of convicted criminals, which was partly what first piqued her interest. But it was chasing down that tale of her great great grandmother, Margaret Murphy which inspired her to write a book.

She started researching her relative by first acquiring Margaret's death certificate as it provided details of her date of death, the date and location of her birth, and the names of her parents.

Barnaby backs coal unless Australians want nuclear power supply

Author: Kate

Barnaby Joyce has called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) recommendation to phase out coal by 2050 as “wrong and ridiculous”, while once again suggesting Australians need to look at nuclear power.

Last weekend the IPCC, the world’s foremost panel on climate change, issued a report stating global greenhouse gas emissions must reach zero by 2050 in order to stop global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Will Wentworth play out in the bush?

Author: Kate

The threat of strong independent candidates to the major parties in the upcoming federal election won’t be as pronounced in rural seats according to a leading political commentator.

Independent candidate Dr Kerryn Phelps remains on track to win the seat of Wentworth with a massive swing of nearly 19 per cent against the Liberal Party – a result many say highlights the threat of high profile independent candidates to the major parties.

Narrabri coal seam gas: Santos granted another 1000 days royalty free for exploration wells

The Northern Daily Leader Madeline Link

Author: Kate

SANTOS has been given a further 1000 day royalty-free handout for coal seam gas extraction in Narrabri.

The Coalition and Labor Party voted on Tuesday to grant another 1000 days of royalty-free exploration to the gas giant for 17 wells at its Wilga Park Power Station.

Greens’ MP Jeremy Buckingham’s disallowance motion for what he calls a ‘royalty-free holiday’ was shot down in parliament.
