LOCAL SPORT GRANT PROGRAM OPENS

LOCAL SPORT GRANT PROGRAM OPENS

Local sporting clubs can apply for the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program to get more locals involved in sport and recreation activities when applications open on Thursday.  The Program aims to increase regular and on-going participation in sport and active recreation.  We all know that sport is incredibly important for health and wellbeing, as well as bringing people in the community together.  Whether it be funding towards training programs to secure more volunteer coaches or helping with that much-needed change room upgrade, these grants are designed to encourage more people to keep active.  There are four project types within the Program, these being:

1.     Sport Club Development;

2.     Community Sport Events;

3.     Sport Access; and

4.     Facility Development and Capital Equipment.

Applications open on 26 November 2015 and close 11 February 2016.  For more information and to apply, visitwww.sportandrecreation.nsw.gov.au.

Former Narrabri jockey Tim Bell killed in Singapore

Former Tamworth apprentice Tim Bell has been killed in a non-racing related accident in Singapore.

The Narrabri-raised jockey, who was pursuing a three-month riding contract in Singapore, was killed after reportedly falling from a high-rise building.

Bell, 22, started his apprenticeship with Sue Grills at Tamworth and was leading apprentice in NSW in his first two seasons with more than 170 winners, Racenet reports.

Two weeks ago he won his first Singapore major, the $150,000 Group 3 El Dorado Classic (2200m) riding stayer Sebrose.
